<DATE>August 28, 2006</DATE>
<DATA1>Recent research of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center published in journal Cancer says that US scientists have found that Women who are obese have chances of more aggressive ovarian cancer and they will die early in comparison to those who have diagnosed with a normal weight.</DATA1>
<DATA2>According to the study, fat tissues may excrete a hormone or protein that grows the cells of ovarian cancer more rapidly.</DATA2>
<DATA3>Lead researcher Dr Andrew Li said that this study is the first to identify weight as an independent factor in ovarian cancer in disease progression and overall survival, suggesting that there is an element in the fat tissue itself that influences the outcome of this disease in obese women.</DATA3>
<DATA4>Researchers studied 216 women with epithelial ovarian cancer. 90 percent of cases have most common type of ovarian tumours. He said that obesity reduces the survival rates and reduces the time length that the cancer should be recurring after treatment and he also examined how exactly fat might influence tumour growth.</DATA4>
<DATA5>In UK near about 6800 women are diagnosed with this ovary cancer every year. This cancer occurs at any time of age but it is mostly occur after the menopause. Most of the women will not be diagnosed with it in time and near about 70 percent of diagnosed women die with in five years of diagnose. This is making it as a one of the most lethal cancers.</DATA5>
<DATA6>Dr Laura-Jane Armstrong who is cancer information officer at Cancer Research UK told that Obesity increases the risk of many type of cancers like Gall bladder, Breast cancer so there is a possibility that increases the risk of ovarian cancer in women. This study involved less number of patients so further research is needed to confirm side effects of obesity. Researchers also added that to maintain healthy weight is one of the best ways to reduce the chance of this cancer.</DATA6>
