October 16, 2006 According to the health specialists every fifth child in Bulgaria is overweight and near about 50% of kids already facing the problem at the age of 18 and nearly 20 % of young women under the age of 30 faces the problem of underweight which is also a big problem. On Monday health experts discuss Bulgarian health status on the World Food Day and compared picture of global stage. According to the experts, latest data shows that US youth are top on the world in term of obesity and European states Bulgaria is still have unavoidable condition. Health experts said that high consumption of fat rich foods and fewer intakes of fruits and vegetables are the main cause of this dramatic health situation in Bulgaria and they also suggest taking more fish and dairy products, salads and fruits to improve health condition. The main aim behind this is to improve the local producers of veggie, orchard and fish products and to motivate in such a way to help the obesity trends among Bulgarians. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has called the world rich nations to do more in the fight against the obesity and the agency stress that its goal to cut half number of people starving by the year 2015. According to the agency report there is 850 million people who suffersf from malnutrition and hunger related disorders world wide in which half of them are children. The main aim behind this marking World Food Day to heighten awareness of the world food problem and battle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty.
