November 01, 2006 British health journal The Lancet published a trial that told the new drug called Rimonabant provide huge excitement for its apparent against obesity and also help in reducing risk of diabetics. This drug reduces bodyweight and control blood glucose and blood fats among people with type 2 diabetes. The study told that type 2 diabetes is a life threatening condition and it emerges in adulthood and it also recommended a 20mg daily dose of Rimonabant with diet and exercise is useful for type 2 diabetes patients. Rimonabant is made by Sanofi-Aventis which is French pharmaceutical giant. This drug is used for a new generation of treatments called cannabinoid type 1 receptor blockers which inhibit brain cells that demand food. This drug was licensed by the European Union (EU) in June for the use of weight loss pill with the combination of diet and exercise for people diagnosed as obese and at risk from diabetes. This drug is marketed in Europe as Acomplia. But in US, FDA asks more information before making a decision on licensing. Details for this request has not been disclosed. This drug is used as a blockbuster after being tested among a few thousand people they are sometimes found to have unexpected physical or psychological side effects when used by millions over a period of years.
