Most of the people in America suffer from health problems
related to Obesity. Research shows that they are dissatisfied
with their weight and try out weight loss programs,
which yields hardly any results. The main reason is
their unhealthy food habits which later leads to eating
disorders.
Eating disorders include activities
like not eating enough, skipping your daily meals in
order to reduce weight, only eating certain things,
eating unhealthy amount of food in a short period of
time etc. Eating disorders are extreme expressions of
a range of weight and food issues experienced by both
men and women.
Eating disorders can be classified into 3 categories:
Anorexia nervosa
- The person does not maintain the normal body weight
required for the age and height
- There is a always a fear of gaining weight
- The danger of becoming under weight is neglected
- Depression, irritability, peculiar eating habits are all indications of Anorexia
nervosa
According to surveys, about 1 out of 100 women in the age group of 10 –
20 suffer from anorexia nervosa.
Bulimia:
- The person eats without any control
- Uses laxatives, vomits or diets to get rid of
fat
- Diets at times and binges when not dieting
- Beware! This person may shop lift, use drugs and
abuse alcohol
Binge eating disorder: The food stealer
- Eats till he/she is uncomfortably full
- Carry on eating secretly to avoid embarrassment
- Eat continuously when stressed, anxious, tired or suffers
emotional problems
- Obsessed about the body and the food
