Taking fewer calories results in weight loss and taking
more calories results in weight gain. This is the problem
that almost everyone is facing in USA. So what should
be the balanced calorie intake for us? When you take
lesser amount of calories than what is required, you
expend more calories than you take in. It results in
weight loss. About 10% of daily caloric intake is used
to process foods in the body. You can spend more by
doing physical activities.
Now that main question is what is the
food that we should take to prevent unnecessary weight
gain? In the other words what are Negative Calorie Foods?
There are certain foods that show negative calorie effect
because the body has to use up more energy to extract
calories from these foods. The negative calorie foods
need more calories to break down the foods and digest
than the calories the foods actually contain. The extra
calories are taken up from the stored fat in the body.
The negative calorie foods are also called minus calorie
foods. One thing that I would like to mention here is
that all foods have some calories. No food is actually
a 'negative calorie' food. Negative calorie food is
foods which use more calories to digest than the calories
the food actually contains. I can give one example so
that you will be easily aware about the idea of this
form of dieting. Suppose you have an apple which contains
50 calories, it would take a certain amount of energy
for your body to process all of the nutrients and vitamins
within the apple. In doing so you would burn more than
50 calories. Now the amount of calories you would burn
is dependent on the individual. Some say that you could
burn as much as 150% of the total calories found within
the apple. The net result is that you would burn 25
calories per apple you eat.
So, vitamins present in the food stimulate living tissues
to produce enzymes which break down the caloric nutrients
of food. This process burns more than the calorie content
of the food.
Want to know which are the Negative Calorie foods? They
are asparagus, broccoli, beets, cabbage, cauliflower,
celery, cucumber, carrot, garlic, papaya, spinach, turnip,
zucchini, apple, orange, lettuce, grapefruit, pineapple,
strawberry and raspberries.
Eating these foods can produce the results that we expect
as far as weight loss is concerned.
