Acomplia, an appetite suppressant diet pill and smoking cessation drug is a brand drug manufactured and marketed by the French pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Aventis. Rising fast on the popularity charts as the magic drug that promotes weight loss and antismoking at the same time, Acomplia is pending FDA approval though it has been marketed successfully in the European Union, Denmark, Finland, Germany and U.K.
Acomplia diet pill functions with the presence of its active ingredient Rimonabant. Being the first in a new class of therapeutic agents called Cannabinoid-1 Receptor Blockers (CB1), it works by blocking CB1 receptor of the brain commonly called the ‘pleasure centre’ of the brain and interfering with the cycle of craving thus making hunger or smoking pangs more manageable. These receptors are present not only in the hypothalamus region of the brain, but also throughout the body, notably in fat cells; work by reducing dependence on tobacco, suppressing appetite and restoring the balance in the system.
